Our History
One of South Dakota's first licensed businesses, Look's Market has served the community since 1883 with the finest meats and deli foods in Sioux Falls. For generations, the Look's name has come to mean quality through the years.
The tradition started with Carl Look, a German immigrant who moved to Sioux Falls to work at a butcher shop with his brother. Carl, always the entrepreneur, soon moved to his own shop at 8th and Main where he remained as downtown Sioux Falls literally grew up around him.
After Look's Market relocated in 1971, its reputation for quality moved with it. Look's proudly boasted "fresh bullheads from Big Stone Lake and Lake Traverse, in addition to frozen lobsters, halibut, walleyes and red salmon." At this time, these foods were true luxuries in a city the size of Sioux Falls.
Today, our foods are still luxuries to many area residents. With gourmet meats, cheeses and produce, a selection of fine wines and spirits, market-fresh fish and a wide range of South Dakota products, Look's Market is the area's only stop for gourmet grocery items to prepare fine family cuisine.
